Transfer credit refers to credit earned at or through another institution. The Academic Advisement Team is here to help students with a variety of transfer credit processes, including:
Important: Transcripts for credit earned before starting a degree at SUNY Oneonta must be sent to the Office of Admissions. Transcripts for credit earned after starting a degree program at SUNY Oneonta must be sent to the Office of the Registrar.
If you earned college, AP, or IB credit in high school, you must request an official transcript be sent to the Office of Admissions from the governing institution. Example: If a student scored a 5 on their AP exam, they would need to order official scores from College Board to be sent to the Office of Admissions here at Oneonta.
expand_more Why don’t I see my credit from previous institutions on my DegreeWorks? You may not see credit from a previous institution for a few reasons. Consider the following:
No. Only credit earned at SUNY Oneonta will factor into your Oneonta GPA.
expand_more Can I retake a class I took at SUNY Oneonta at another institution? It depends. If you earned credit for a course (D- or better), you cannot retake the course at another institution. If you did not earn credit (E letter grade), you may be able to retake the course at another institution. Note: Taking a course at another institution will not replace an E grade. Transfer credit does not factor into your Oneonta GPA.
expand_more I’m planning to take a summer class at another institution, how do I do that?To take a course at another institution, you must receive prior approval from the Academic Advisement Center before the start of the course.
expand_more My department said I can substitute a course in DegreeWorks, how do I do that?Course Substitutions are submitted by the Chair of a Department to allow a course to fulfill an academic requirement. Course Substitutions are done at the discretion of a Department Chair.
